HAES is the acronym for Haitian-American Association of Engineers and Scientists; it is a not for profit corporation established in Florida, U.S.A. in 1989 by engineers, scientists, and technicians residing in the area. These founding members felt it would be beneficial to our community to have an organization that promotes the application of engineering, science, and technology in helping to improve the standard of living in our communities in the U.S.A. with a vision of doing the same for communities in Haiti.
Membership consists of engineers in the various disciplines including agricultural, architectural, civil, chemical, communications, computer, electrical, electronics, industrial, manufacturing and mechanical. There are also scientists in the fields of biology, optics and pharmacy. Also included are technicians who work in a wide array of disciplines supporting the engineers and scientists.
This makes for a very powerful network for achieving many types of scientific and technical projects. The scientists conduct the research and interpret the fundamentals discoveries. The engineers develop and devise practical applications and designs for these discoveries. The technicians assist the scientists and engineers in testing and making things work.
We seek to attract more members who, like us, believe that we can pool our resources together and make a positive impact on our society. As a result, we strive to leave an enduring legacy of progress through the use of our knowledge and talents in the engineering, scientific, and technical fields for the common good.
There are many needs in our communities that can be better met if certain fundamental principles are identified, articulated, developed, and applied towards meeting these needs. Indeed, that is the common function of engineers, scientists and technicians, but this needs to be done on a wider scale for the improvement of our communities.
Being of Haitian heritage and knowing the need that exists for many of our brethren here in the U.S.A. as well as in Haiti, we tend to focus on the possibilities that we can offer in meeting some of those needs and to concretize those possibilities in the form of various projects.
The aforementioned explains why our goal is to bring people of various backgrounds together. We aim to plan and implement strategies and projects that will serve to increase the level of technical proficiency for Haitians and the communities in which they live.
